Amref Health Africa is seeking a motivated and community-oriented Water Starters Project Intern to support their innovative WASH program in Kajiado County, Kenya. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable water solutions for rural communities while gaining valuable experience in community development and project management.
About Amref Health Africa:
Founded in 1957, Amref Health Africa is the largest African-led international health development organization, reaching over 12 million people across 35 African countries. Our mission is to transform community health through Primary Health Care, with a focus on women and young people.
About the Water Starters Project:
Water Starters is an innovative WASH program testing a new financing and management model for rural water schemes. The project aims to reach 1.5 million people in water-stressed areas by 2030 through smart-tech solutions and professional management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Engagement (40%):
- – Assist in community mobilization efforts
- – Participate in community meetings and local events
- – Aid in community sensitization about project interventions
- – Promote best practices in water, sanitation, and hygiene
2. Project Support (30%):
- – Maintain accurate records of project activities
- – Support identification and appraisal of new intervention sites
- – Provide general administrative support
3. Monitoring and Evaluation (20%):
- – Assist in data collection and reporting
- – Support progress tracking and impact assessment
4. Stakeholder Coordination (10%):
- – Liaise with local community members and leaders
- – Support communication with project partners
Requirements:
Education and Skills:
- – Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Community Development, Project Management, or related field
- – Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- – Fluency in English and Kiswahili (oral and written); knowledge of Maa language is a plus
- – Strong interest in community health and development
Personal Qualities:
- – Proactive and able to take initiative
- – Adaptable and willing to work in challenging environments
- – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- – Strong organizational abilities
Preferred:
- – Candidates from Kajiado County or surrounding areas
- – Previous experience or internship in community development projects
