The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and qualified individual to fill the position of Accountant 2 (French Speaker). This opportunity is open to Kenyan nationals and offers a chance to contribute to the vital humanitarian work of the ICRC.

About the Role:

The Accountant 2 is responsible for preparing, reconciling, and analyzing accounting records and financial reports for the delegation. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial integrity of ICRC operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Record-Keeping:

  • – Record cash accounting vouchers in IRIS, ensuring compliance with ICRC financial rules
  • – Process invoices according to ICRC financial regulations
  • – Prepare fortnightly bank reconciliations and final month-end closure reconciliations
  • – File electronic monthly/quarterly accounting documents in the Azure online platform

2. Bank Management:

  • – Coordinate bank transactions to support ICRC activities
  • – Prepare reliable monthly funds forecasts and ensure prompt disbursement
  • – Monitor and verify bank charges
  • – Handle bank correspondence and address queries
  • – Prepare payments using online banking systems

3. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • – Prepare and confirm quarterly balance reconciliations
  • – Generate supplier reconciliation statements
  • – Post National Societies (NS) returns in the IRIS accounting system
  • – Prepare List of Accounts for Reconciliation and Confirmation (LARC) monthly and quarterly

4. Compliance and Quality Control:

  • – Ensure all payments adhere to ICRC rules and procedures
  • – Reconcile balance sheet accounts and address outstanding issues
  • – Maintain high standards of confidentiality and integrity

Requirements:

Education:

  • – University degree in Finance/Accounting OR
  • – CPA Part II (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent

Language Skills:

  • – Fluency in both written and spoken French is essential
  • – Strong English language skills

Experience:

  • – Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a finance position
  • – Experience in an international organization or NGO is preferred
