Jambojet, Kenya’s leading low-cost airline, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Flight Operations Officer to join their dynamic team in Nairobi. This crucial role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the safety, efficiency, and success of Jambojet’s flight operations across East Africa.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager of Operations Control, the Flight Operations Officer will work in joint authority with the Pilot in Command (PIC) to make critical decisions and perform essential tasks associated with operational control. This position ensures the safety and security of Jambojet flights by providing, preparing, and briefing the PIC with timely, adequate, and updated flight documentation and relevant information, all in compliance with conditions and limitations specified in the Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and process Operational Flight Plans for all Jambojet flights departing from Nairobi and other applicable stations
2. Action all Messages/Emails to ensure efficient and safe operations
3. Operate VHF and HF radios to establish effective communications with aircraft
4. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the Operations Control Centre
5. Compile and compute flight progress status in Wingtrac to maintain accurate flight information
6. Provide meteorological information to aircraft in-flight when required for safe operations
7. Furnish the PIC with necessary information for safe flight conduct, including in-flight diversions and routing changes
8. Ensure implementation of safety, security, and emergency standards at all times
9. Prepare, process, and provide updated dispatch documentation for flight crew briefings
10. Conduct timely briefings for flight crews in conformity with company policy and Civil Aviation Regulations
11. Provide Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) and meteorological pre-flight briefings
12. Advise Flight Crew on payload status to maximize efficiency
13. Prepare and file all ATS flight plans with relevant Civil Aviation Authorities
14. Monitor assigned aircraft for restrictive Operational MEL/CDL and plan flights accordingly
15. Ensure compliance with crew duty regulations and company policies
16. Coordinate crew transportation to ensure prompt pick-up and drop-off
17. Monitor crew check-in/check-out times to maintain on-time performance
18. Track daily crew rosters to optimize scheduling
Requirements:
1. Diploma in a relevant field (Aviation Management, Aeronautical Science, or related discipline)
2. Valid Flight Operations Officer License issued by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA)
3. Minimum of 3 years working experience in Airline Operations
4. Strong team player with the ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment
5. Proficient computer skills, including experience with flight planning software and Microsoft Office suite
6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
7. Must be at least 21 years of age
8. Thorough knowledge of aviation regulations, particularly those related to flight operations
9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
10. Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed decisions
11. Familiarity with meteorological data interpretation and its application to flight planning
12. Experience with crew resource management principles
13. Knowledge of aircraft performance characteristics, particularly those in Jambojet’s fleet
14. Understanding of air traffic control procedures and airspace management
15. Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry developments

Additional Responsibilities:
19. Participate in emergency response planning and execution when required
20. Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for flight operations
21. Liaise with various departments such as Maintenance, Ground Operations, and Crew Scheduling to ensure seamless coordination
22. Stay informed about changes in aviation regulations and company policies, ensuring compliance in all operations
23. Assist in training new Flight Operations Officers and participate in recurrent training programs
24. Contribute to fuel efficiency initiatives by optimizing flight plans and advising on best practices
25. Participate in post-flight analysis to identify areas for operational improvement
