About the Position:
FAO is hiring a Veterinary Expert specializing in PPR management to play a crucial role in the Peste des Petits Ruminants Global Eradication Programme (PPR-GEP). This position is part of the Joint PPR GEP Secretariat, established by FAO and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in 2016.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
1. Collaborate closely with the African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) and European Union (EU) representatives to mobilize funding for PPR eradication in Africa.
2. Coordinate a technical assistance team, ensuring coherence in policy dialogue at global, regional, and country levels.
3. Engage with stakeholders to develop strategies for private sector involvement in PPR eradication efforts.
4. Contribute to PPR vaccination strategies and epidemiological surveillance planning.
5. Assist in formulating national and regional PPR strategies, incorporating multidisciplinary approaches to address endemic diseases and public health threats.
6. Prepare regular progress reports and monitor project deliverables.
7. Support resource mobilization efforts for PPR eradication.
8. Contribute to the development of performance indicators and monitoring systems.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:
- – An advanced degree in Veterinary Science or a related field.
- – Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in animal health in Africa.
- – Fluency in English and French (level C proficiency).
- – Extensive knowledge of EU financial and contractual procedures.
- – Proven leadership and project management skills in animal health and rural development projects.
- – Experience with EU-funded project documentation and evaluation.
- – Expertise in developing regional strategies under the One Health approach.
- – Prior involvement in projects related to major animal disease control, rinderpest eradication, veterinary service strengthening, and trade development.
