The British High Commission (BHC) in Nairobi is seeking an experienced Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Adviser to join their dynamic team. This crucial role offers an exciting opportunity to lead evidence-based decision-making and drive impactful development initiatives in Kenya.
About the Role:
The MEL Adviser will be a key member of the Strategy, Assurance and Results Team (START) within BHC Nairobi. This position is at the forefront of ensuring that UK development efforts in Kenya are effective, efficient, and deliver maximum value for money.
Key Responsibilities:
- – Lead monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities across BHC Kenya’s programme portfolio
- – Champion the use of evidence in decision-making and policy formulation
- – Design and implement high-quality MEL frameworks for development programmes
- – Provide expert advice on logframes, theories of change, and evaluation methodologies
- – Oversee the commissioning and management of independent evaluations
- – Ensure compliance with FCDO evaluation standards and transparency requirements
- – Facilitate learning discussions and knowledge sharing among programme teams
- – Develop and maintain key performance indicators for the BHC Country Plan
- – Manage the Portfolio Monitoring Evaluation and Learning programme (£3.8 million budget)
- – Contribute to the wider FCDO statistics and evaluation community
Requirements:
- – Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, Economics, Statistics)
- – Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and managing monitoring, evaluation, or research activities
- – Strong knowledge of diverse evaluation and learning methodologies
- – Expertise in developing theories of change, evidence gap maps, and results frameworks
- – Proven track record of promoting evidence uptake for decision-making
- – Excellent analytical and communication skills
- – Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams
- – Experience in international development contexts (desirable)
- – Understanding of measuring diplomatic influence (desirable)
