The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Kenya and East Africa is seeking an experienced Project Management Specialist to lead their Family Planning and Reproductive Health initiatives. About the Position:
The Project Management Specialist (Family Planning/Reproductive Health) will play a pivotal role in expanding access to and improving the quality of voluntary family planning and reproductive health services in Kenya. This senior-level position requires a dynamic professional who can provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and program management skills to advance USAID’s health objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical and Strategic Leadership (50%):
- – Serve as a high-level technical advisor on voluntary family planning and reproductive health
- – Provide strategic guidance on integrating FP/RH activities with broader Health Office initiatives
- – Stay abreast of emerging developments in FP/RH approaches and advise on their incorporation
- – Contribute to innovative monitoring and evaluation approaches for FP activities
- – Prepare key planning and reporting documents for USAID headquarters and Congress
- – Identify and coordinate short-term technical assistance to support the FP/RH portfolio
2. Program/Project/Activity Management (30%):
- – Act as Contracting or Agreement Officer’s Representative (COR/AOR) for FP/RH activities
- – Review and approve annual work plans for implementing partners
- – Conduct regular site visits to monitor program implementation and compliance
- – Ensure adherence to USAID regulations and U.S. family planning legislative requirements
- – Participate in the design of new project mechanisms and activities
- – Provide oversight of sub-partners and field activities
3. Representation and Reporting (20%):
- – Represent USAID at national, regional, and international FP/RH meetings and working groups
- – Establish strategic relationships with Ministry of Health officials, development partners, and civil society organizations
- – Respond to information requests from USAID headquarters and Congress
- – Share timely updates on policy changes and regulatory environments affecting USAID programs
Qualifications and Requirements:
- – Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development, Health Sciences, or related field
- – Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in public or private sector family planning and reproductive health
- – Prior work with bilateral or multilateral donors (e.g., World Bank, UN agencies)
- – Fluent proficiency in English and local language (both oral and written)
- – Strong technical and analytical skills in family planning and reproductive health
- – Excellent communication, advocacy, and networking abilities
- – Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based databases
