The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Kenya and East Africa mission is seeking a highly qualified Risk Management Group Director to join their team in Nairobi, Kenya. This critical role will lead efforts to enhance risk management practices and build capacity among local partners.
Position: Risk Management Group Director (USPSC Resident Hire)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Salary Range: $123,041 to $159,950 annually (GS-15 equivalent)
Contract Duration: Two-year base period with potential for three one-year extensions
About USAID Kenya and East Africa:
USAID Kenya and East Africa works to promote sustainable development, economic growth, and improved livelihoods across the region. The mission partners with local organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to implement impactful programs in areas such as health, education, agriculture, and democracy and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and oversee implementation of an annual risk management plan and budget
2. Coordinate with various USAID offices to evaluate program effectiveness and build local partner capacity
3. Identify and address financial, programmatic, operational, and reputational risks
4. Provide strategic leadership on risk management matters within the mission
5. Design and implement training programs for USAID staff and implementing partners
6. Foster a culture of proactive risk management across the organization
7. Liaise with Washington D.C. on social, environmental, and economic accountability issues
8. Manage safeguarding and compliance risks related to USAID awards
9. Supervise and develop Risk Management Group staff
Qualifications:
1. U.S. citizenship or U.S. resident alien status
2. Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Accounting, Business Administration, International Development)
3. Professional certification such as CIA, CFE, CRM, CPA, or PMI-RMP
4. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in internal audit/risk management at a corporate or organizational level
5. Supervisory experience
6. Strong coordination and negotiation skills
7. Experience working in an environment similar to Kenya

They will be adept at building relationships with diverse stakeholders and translating complex risk concepts into actionable strategies. The Risk Management Group Director will play a crucial role in enhancing USAID’s ability to deliver effective development assistance while mitigating potential risks.
