Role Overview:

The Accountant Payables will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth financial operations for the Tumikia Mtoto Project. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Payment Processing:

  • – Ensure timely processing of payments to service providers
  • – Facilitate staff advance requests for smooth operations
  • – Review and validate M-pesa requests using the Safaricom portal
  • – File final payment reports from the Safaricom portal

2. Financial Management and Staff Support:

  • – Manage service provider queries regarding payments
  • – Process petty cash requests as needed
  • – Analyze and submit exempted taxes (VAT) for refund based on USAID guidelines
  • – Build capacity of staff and service providers on payment system requirements
  • – Prepare timely invoices for submission to donors
  • – Ensure accurate booking of received income

3. Balance Sheet Account Reconciliation:

  • – Undertake reconciliation of receivable and payables accounts
  • – Monitor balance sheet account balances
  • – Follow up on staff advances for timely accounting
  • – Prepare monthly reconciliation statements

4. Risk Management:

  • – Identify role-related risks for inclusion in Riskconnect
  • – Support grant project audits according to donor requirements
  • – Ensure implementation of audit findings and recommendations
  • – Maintain World Vision’s internal control systems

5. Additional Responsibilities:

  • – Participate in project start-up workshops
  • – Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements:

  • – Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance), Economics, or related field
  • – Professional qualifications: CPA (K) or ACCA finalist
  • – Minimum 4 years of relevant accounting experience
  • – Advanced Excel and analytical skills
  • – Experience with electronic payments and mobile money transactions
  • – Knowledge of USAID grant financial management
  • – Practical experience with SUN system accounting software (preferred)
  • – Knowledge and experience in ERP systems
  • – Experience working for an INGO (preferred)
