Role Overview
Job Purpose:
The Assistant Payments Specialist is responsible for processing incoming SWIFT payments according to customer instructions. Key objectives include delivering prompt customer service, minimizing losses and risks, and maintaining due diligence and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities: Driving Excellence in Payments Processing
1. Customer Service
- – Respond promptly to customer queries and provide relevant information within your scope of authority.
- – Refer customer inquiries to appropriate departments if beyond your expertise.
- – Process Treasury operations, RTGS, and TT instructions efficiently.
- – Proactively inform customers about payments-related products and other banking services.
- – Maintain professional etiquette in phone handling and customer interactions.
- – Ensure timely and accurate execution of customer instructions.
2. Transaction Processing
- – Process all transactions accurately and ensure all entries to suspense accounts are accounted for.
- – Track and recover transfer charges and cheque commissions promptly.
- – Adhere to laid-down procedures to minimize risks and losses.
- – Manage placement and liquidation of deposits for customers and fund managers.
- – Track and report revenue for the entire center.
3. Risk & Compliance
- – Stay updated with all bank policies, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering Financing of Terrorism (CFT) regulations.
- – Participate in AML/CFT compliance programs, attestations, and self-assessments.
- – Report suspected money laundering incidents promptly to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer.
- – Avoid misrepresentation or malicious reporting, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
- – Fully cooperate with regulators and law enforcement during investigations.
Qualifications and Skills
Academic Background
- – Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field is required.
Work Experience
- – At least one year of banking experience, preferably in Operations.
Skills and Competencies
- – Strong understanding of prudential guidelines on KYC and AML.
- – Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- – Proficient interpersonal and leadership skills.
- – Up-to-date knowledge of the banking sector, CBK Act, and other relevant regulations.
Professional Certifications
- – Training in International Trade and Foreign Exchange is an advantage.
- – Leadership and personal management certifications are desirable.
