Position Overview:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Oncology will play a crucial role in executing Medical Affairs Plans for pre-launch and newly launched products/indications. This field-based scientific expert will shape clinical practice through scientific engagements, partnerships, and collaborations with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to drive enhanced patient outcomes and the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Scientific Expertise:

  • – Maintain clinical/scientific expertise in oncology, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape
  • – Contribute to the development of the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP)
  • – Act as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders
  • – Develop and deliver training within the therapeutic area

2. Scientific Exchange:

  • – Engage in peer-to-peer dialogue with key customers and deliver clinical/scientific content
  • – Respond to unsolicited customer inquiries with balanced information
  • – Organize and facilitate scientific events such as symposiums, advisory boards, and expert panels
  • – Collaborate with key experts on study proposals and publications

3. Customer Insight:

  • – Gather, analyze, and report relevant knowledge about external scientific/medical environments
  • – Provide actionable insights to internal stakeholders related to medical/product strategy
  • – Identify gaps in the patient experience journey to inform medical strategies

4. Strategic Relationship Building:

  • – Develop peer-level relationships with medical and scientific experts
  • – Identify potential investigators for clinical studies
  • – Support data generation activities, including reviews of investigator-sponsored studies
  • – Establish partnerships to address patient healthcare access gaps within the ecosystem

Requirements:

Education:

  • – Doctoral degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D.) required
  • – Master’s degree in a scientific discipline may be considered

Experience:

  • – Minimum 3 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory environment, or clinical/preclinical research
  • – In-depth knowledge of oncology disease states and treatments
  • – Experience with drug discovery, development, and key opinion leader interactions

Skills:

  • – Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • – Strong presentation and project management abilities
  • – High-level analytical and conceptual thinking
  • – Proficiency in various communication channels and technologies
  • – Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
