About the Role:
The Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program at BAT Kenya is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of operations within the tobacco industry. Over the course of 24 months, successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn and operate cutting-edge technologies in Secondary Manufacturing Department (SMD), including Cigarette Makers, Cigarette Packers, and Filter Makers.
This apprenticeship is not just a training program – it’s a real job from day one. Apprentices will work alongside experienced professionals, participate in various projects, and contribute to the company’s ongoing success and innovation.
Key Learning Objectives:
1. Machine Operation:
- – Master the operation of at least one key technology in SMD (Cigarette Maker, Cigarette Packer, or Filter Maker)
- – Learn basic machine settings and maintenance procedures
- – Achieve and maintain set quality parameters consistently
2. Quality Control:
- – Monitor product quality according to specification sheets
- – Record data on quality checklists and implement corrective measures when necessary
3. Maintenance and Safety:
- – Participate in routine maintenance tasks as part of the development process
- – Perform Cleaning, Inspection & Lubrication (CIL) procedures
- – Maintain a clean and safe work environment through proper housekeeping and 5S principles
4. Data Management:
- – Accurately capture and record data on machine cards, quality checklists, and detector checklists
- – Learn to optimize the use of running spares and consumables
5. Team Collaboration:
- – Actively participate in team activities and initiatives
- – Gain proficiency in various tools used by the team
- – Follow up on actions arising from meetings
Requirements:
Education:
- – Ordinary National Diploma in Engineering
Skills and Attributes:
- – Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- – Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- – Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- – Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
- – Problem-solving skills and initiative
Preferred Experience:
- – Prior experience in a similar position within a manufacturing environment is advantageous but not required
