Mombasa County is seeking an accomplished Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join their esteemed medical team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of cardiovascular care in the region, with a 3-year contract term.
About the Role:
As the Cardiothoracic Surgeon, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive surgical care to patients with cardiac and thoracic conditions. Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in delivering exceptional patient outcomes and driving the development of specialized cardiothoracic services within the county.
Key Responsibilities:
Emergency and Elective Surgical Care
- – Attend to all emergency cardiothoracic surgeries according to the established on-call roster
- – Perform a wide range of elective cardiothoracic surgeries, including those related to the heart, lungs, and other thoracic structures
Outpatient Care
- – Manage a specialized cardiothoracic clinic, seeing patients at least once a week
- – Provide comprehensive, personalized care to patients with cardiac and thoracic symptoms requiring surgical intervention
Inpatient Management
- – Participate in daily ward rounds for patients under your care
- – Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless and coordinated patient management
Surgical Operations
- – Maintain a dedicated schedule of cardiothoracic surgical lists, performing complex procedures with precision and skill
- – Continuously explore and implement the latest advancements in cardiothoracic surgical techniques to optimize patient outcomes
Professional Development and Education
- – Contribute to the facility’s educational programs, sharing your expertise with healthcare professionals
- – Participate in continuous medical education activities to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field
Institutional Leadership
- – Work closely with the Head of Department and Institutional Head to fulfill any additional responsibilities as directed
- – Demonstrate a high degree of administrative capability and broad professional experience
Requirements:
Educational Qualifications
- – Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
- – Master’s degree or postgraduate degree in general surgery, with a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery or a master’s degree in cardiothoracic surgery
Licensure and Registration
- – Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board, with specialist recognition for cardiothoracic surgery
Experience
- – Extensive and stable work history as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon
- – Demonstrated a high degree of administrative capability and broad professional experience
