UNDP’s Crisis Bureau and Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery for Building Resilience Team (DRT) focus on integrating risk into development programs and enhancing resilience.

Job Summary:

UNDP seeks a Disaster Risk Reduction & Resilience Officer to support the “Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance and Recovery Capacities” Project and the Africa Urban Resilience Programme (AURP). The role involves providing technical assistance, capacity development, and support for project implementation in targeted African countries.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Support and Project Implementation

  • – Design and implement project activities at country and regional levels
  • – Lead project implementation in at least 2 targeted countries
  • – Participate in field missions and support project monitoring
  • – Assist in mobilizing resources and identifying implementation challenges

2. Knowledge Management

  • – Compile and analyze project results and lessons learned
  • – Facilitate South-South exchanges and experience sharing
  • – Support country offices with information on best practices
  • – Ensure project communication adheres to EU and UNDP standards

3. Partnership and Resource Mobilization

  • – Collaborate with partners including EU, UNDRR, and OACPS
  • – Develop partnerships with regional economic communities and stakeholders
  • – Support resource mobilization efforts and proposal development

4. Urban Resilience Implementation

  • – Support design and development of urban resilience programs
  • – Participate in high-level events on urban resilience
  • – Compile research and analyze urban resilience issues in Africa
  • – Identify opportunities for resource mobilization

5. Communications and Visibility

  • – Support communications and visibility activities
  • – Coordinate with partners on joint communication products
  • – Facilitate development of key reports and publications
  • – Engage with stakeholders and map emerging priorities



  • – Master’s degree in Urban Studies and Planning, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Disaster Management, or related field; OR
  • – Bachelor’s degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience


  • – Minimum 2 years (with Master’s) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s) of professional experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, resilience-building, or climate change adaptation
  • – Experience in supporting policy and program advice in disaster risk reduction, urban risk management, or urban development

Skills and Knowledge:

  • – Proven track record in disaster risk reduction, urban resilience, and recovery
  • – Knowledge of urban development, risk reduction, and climate change concepts
  • – Experience with UN, EU institutions, and ACP Group of States (asset)
  • – Project management and coordination experience
  • – Strong writing, negotiation, and communication skills
  • – Ability to work in multicultural teams and fast-paced environments


  • – Fluency in English and French required
  • – Knowledge of another UN official language desirable
