Role Overview:
The Factory Logistics Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of logistics processes and systems, with a particular focus on SAP implementation, in Eastern Africa markets. This role is crucial in maintaining compliance with internal and external control requirements, statutory regulations, and industry best practices. As the logistics network becomes increasingly complex, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in risk management and business continuity planning.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Compliance and Systems Management:
• Ensure all logistics processes and systems in Eastern Africa markets adhere to internal and external control requirements and statutory regulations
• Act as the custodian for logistics systems, particularly SAP, global freight compliance, SAP WMS, records management, and EH&S
• Maintain the integrity of logistics processes, systems, and products to guarantee customer satisfaction
2. Cost Management and Continuous Improvement:
• Manage logistics costs within agreed budgets and drive unit cost reduction through innovation and continuous improvement initiatives
• Develop and implement strategies to optimize logistics operations and enhance efficiency
3. Risk Management and Business Continuity:
• Conduct regular assessments of logistics risks and implement necessary mitigating measures
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and maintain an up-to-date supply chain risk register and contingency plan
• Provide expert advice on changes in local and international regulations related to cross-border product movements
4. Supply Chain Optimization:
• Ensure seamless leaf supply to the Nairobi factory, working closely with Global Leaf Pool (GLP)
• Manage on-site and off-site warehouses, maintaining product integrity and inventory accuracy
• Develop and execute efficient fleet management and transport plans for timely product delivery
5. Stakeholder Management and Communication:
• Lead engagement with internal and external bodies on all aspects of logistics compliance
• Ensure timely and accurate communication of shipments and corresponding documents through regular tracking
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver results and escalate issues as required
6. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
• Maintain and issue the Logistics KPI dashboard and conduct performance reviews with continuous improvement plans
• Carry out regular aging analysis of BAT stocks and provide recommendations on obsolescence and damaged stocks
• Ensure all records are maintained and provided as per BAT best practices and local regulations
7. Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Management:
• Manage relationships with 3PL service providers to deliver expected business results through teamwork and collaboration
• Ensure appropriate insurance coverage for all movement and storage of goods and process claims effectively
8. Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure timely application and closure of Inward Processing Facility with monthly tracking and reconciliations
• Oversee safe and secure destruction of approved obsolescence in a responsible manner, providing necessary evidence and reports
Requirements:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
• Advanced degree or professional certifications in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CPIM, CSCP) is a plus
Experience:
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in logistics and supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
• Proven track record in managing complex logistics operations, preferably in the FMCG or tobacco industry
• Strong knowledge of SAP and other logistics management systems
Skills and Competencies:
• In-depth understanding of logistics network design and optimization
• Expertise in import/export processes and regulations
• Proficiency in warehouse and inventory management
• Strong knowledge of security and insurance policies and practices in logistics
• Familiarity with audit techniques, Supply Chain Excellence principles, and risk management
• Excellent leadership and influencing skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
