The Regional Office for the East and Horn of Africa supports and monitors operations in Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Job Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Regional Resource Management Officer and the Regional Resource Management Officer, with direct supervision from the Senior Finance Assistant, the Financial Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the regional office.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in managing financial resources, monitoring and controlling assets, reserves, funds, and supplies
2. Support annual budget preparation and revisions, including cost estimations for staff, facilities, and operations
3. Input and extract data from financial and accounting systems
4. Provide guidance on accounting, budget, and financial matters
5. Assist in payroll preparation and validation
6. Review and verify various types of payments and purchase requests
7. Create new vendor accounts in PRISM and verify vendor claims
8. Prepare financial, accounting, and statistical reports as required
9. Support staff services such as travel arrangements and expense claims
10. Manage the office’s petty cash
11. Ensure proper documentation and systematic completion of all accounting processes
Requirements:
Education:
- – High School diploma with five years of relevant experience; OR
- – Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related fields with three years of relevant professional experience
Experience:
- – Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- – Experience with SAP is a distinct advantage
- – Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- – Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in multi-cultural settings is preferred
Skills:
- – Advanced computer literacy, particularly in MS Office products
- – Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
- – Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Languages:
- – Fluency in English and Kiswahili (oral and written) is required
- – Working knowledge of French and/or any other UN official language is advantageous
