Job Description:
The British Council is hiring an IELTS Speaking Examiner in Nairobi, Kenya. This role will conduct assessments for the IELTS Speaking module while maintaining the standards required by the IELTS Professional Support Network (PSN) and the British Council. The examiner will be responsible for delivering IELTS oral interviews and working closely with examiner support teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- – Conducting IELTS Speaking tests
- – Marking IELTS Speaking tests
- – Ensuring certification is up-to-date and attending required training and standardisation sessions
- – Conducting other IELTS and British Council exams as required and certified
- – Adhering to IELTS PSN and British Council policies
- – Participating in examiner meetings and other relevant meetings
- – Considering Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in planning and delivery
- – Managing information per the British Council’s standards and data protection principles
- – Participating in required training, including Child Protection and Health & Safety
- – Maintaining a professional, organised, and appropriately dressed demeanour
- – Keeping up-to-date with IELTS developments
Requirements:
- – Undergraduate or Master’s degree, or an equivalent qualification
- – Recognised TESOL qualification as part of a university award course
- – Minimum 3 years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) relevant TESOL teaching experience, mainly with adult students (16+ years)
- – Required professional attributes and interpersonal skills for the role

“Full-time teaching” is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of in-person teaching per week. Freelance and volunteer teaching are not included.
