Job Overview
IOM is seeking three dedicated Laboratory Technologists to join their team in Nairobi, Kenya. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the organization’s Migration Health Assessments (HAP) and other critical programs implemented by the IOM Migration Health Division.
Position: Laboratory Technologist (3 Positions)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Classification: General Service Staff, Grade G5
Type of Appointment: One Year Fixed Term, with possibility of extension
Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will play a vital role in supporting laboratory services for migration health assessments. Their core responsibilities will include:
1. Performing laboratory procedures for pre-examination, examination, and post-examination activities using standard relevant equipment.
2. Contributing to the implementation of laboratory quality management systems.
3. Ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain high-quality laboratory standards.
4. Implementing and maintaining biosafety measures in the laboratory.
5. Managing assigned workstations to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of results.
6. Conducting quality control and quality assurance activities for assigned stations.
7. Assisting with laboratory equipment maintenance and stock management.
8. Maintaining organized record-keeping and information management systems.
9. Developing and updating SOPs in coordination with the laboratory supervisor.
10. Participating in service improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
11. Managing client expectations and providing services with respect for patients’ dignity.
12. Ensuring compliance with IOM instructions and completing all mandatory training.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- – Bachelor’s degree or Diploma from an accredited institution in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
- – Valid license to practice.
Experience
- – Bachelor’s degree holders: Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
- – Diploma holders: Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
- – At least 3 years of experience in tuberculosis testing.
- – Proven knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and quality management systems.
- – Experience with laboratory biosafety principles and practices.
- – Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and computer applications for laboratory services.
- – Experience in serology testing is advantageous.
Language Skills
- – Fluency in both English and Kiswahili is required.
