Job Purpose:
The Library Assistant Interns will undertake responsibilities encompassing various facets of library services, ensuring their seamless execution and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- – Provide circulation desk services.
- – Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
- – Instruct patrons how to access and use library resources.
- – Locate library materials for patrons, including books, periodicals, and articles.
- – Perform user education and orientation for library users, including preparing library guides and promotional materials and assisting patrons in locating library materials.
- – Perform collection maintenance activities, including inventory, weeding, and minor repairs of damaged information materials.
- – Sort and shelve information materials according to the classification scheme in use to ensure ease of retrieval by users, including shelve reading.
- – Participate in the processing of new library materials as assigned.
- – Undertake any other duty as may be required.
Africa International University Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- – Bachelor’s degree or a diploma in Library Science or a related field
- – Proficient in library management systems, preferably KOHA
- – Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Tools
- – Conversant with the LC Classification system
Required Skills and Abilities:
- – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- – Proactive, self-driven, and goal-oriented
- – Ability to work with minimum supervision
- – Computer literate
