About the Role:
The Medical Officer – Accident & Emergency will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care and services aligned with Avenue Healthcare’s policies, protocols, and standards. This permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to emergency medical care in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care and Management:
- – Accurately document patient history, physical examinations, investigations, and management plans
- – Initiate and maintain proper treatment protocols for patients
- – Conduct timely consultations and referrals to specialists when necessary
- – Provide daily updates on patient progress to patients and their next of kin
- – Facilitate patient admissions, obtain necessary consents, and manage discharges
2. Clinical Procedures and Professional Development:
- – Perform clinical procedures within the scope of training
- – Conduct and participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions and research initiatives
- – Engage in morbidity and mortality meetings as required
- – Champion evidence-based practice and continuous skill improvement
3. Quality Assurance and Patient Safety:
- – Participate in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and Quality Improvement Plans
- – Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- – Maintain a positive work attitude and foster teamwork
- – Conduct timely ward rounds and patient reviews
4. Resource Management and Financial Viability:
- – Ensure availability of necessary resources for quality care (HR, equipment, supplies, services)
- – Support marketing activities to drive growth in client numbers
- – Manage costs within budget and ensure accurate billing of drugs and services
- – Enforce exclusions, seek pre-authorizations, and ensure proper documentation
5. Compliance and Governance:
- – Adhere to Avenue Healthcare’s corporate governance policies
- – Prevent, detect, and report any fraud or criminal activity
- – Implement audit recommendations as required
6. Continuous Improvement:
- – Rotate through various departments as needed
- – Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly department meetings
- – Stay updated on Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems
Requirements:
- – Bachelor’s degree in Medicine
- – Valid Practicing License
- – Valid BLS and ACLS Certification
- – Minimum of 3 years of working experience in an Accident and Emergency Department
- – Higher Diploma in Accident and Emergency (preferred)
- – Strong attention to detail and report writing skills
- – Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team
- – High ethical standards and empathetic approach to patient care
- – Emotional intelligence and reliability
