Role Overview
The successful candidate will wear two hats: that of a Pastry Chef overseeing bakery operations, and that of a Lecturer responsible for teaching and curriculum development. This dual role requires a passion for both pastry arts and education.
Key Responsibilities
As a Pastry Chef:
- – Manage the pastry section of the BIHC kitchen, working collaboratively with other chefs
- – Prepare a wide variety of baked goods, from traditional recipes to modern creations
- – Develop new seasonal recipes and menus, staying current with industry trends
- – Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations in the bakery section
- – Monitor ingredient stock and place orders within budget constraints
- – Create custom desserts for special occasions, liaising with customers as needed
As a Lecturer:
- – Teach diploma-level courses in pastry arts and related subjects
- – Contribute to curriculum development and implementation
- – Prepare learning materials and maintain student records
- – Participate in departmental seminars and collaborative projects
- – Develop, administer, and mark exams and assessments
- – Provide mentorship and pastoral care to students
Additional Duties:
- – Participate in curriculum development initiatives
- – Contribute to the college’s continuous improvement efforts
- – Represent BIHC at industry events and networking opportunities
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- – Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Pastry Arts or related field
- – 5-10 years of proven experience in five-star hotels, managing pastry and bakery sections
- – Teaching experience is highly advantageous
Skills and Competencies:
- – Extensive knowledge of pastry and baking techniques, both traditional and modern
- – Strong leadership and team management abilities
- – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- – Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint
- – Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- – Creativity in menu development and pastry presentation
- – Physical stamina to work long hours in a kitchen environment
- – Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
