Role Overview:
As a Clinical Officer at Penda Health, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients. This position offers the unique opportunity to treat patients independently, making your own clinical decisions while being supported by advanced guidelines, cutting-edge technology, and experienced clinical mentors. You’ll be part of a team of exceptional all-around clinical officers dedicated to improving health outcomes in your community.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care and Treatment:
- – Provide comprehensive, high-quality clinical services, including thorough history taking, physical examinations, and treatment prescriptions
- – Order and interpret diagnostic tests, explaining results and treatment plans to patients
- – Attend to medical emergencies and recommend referrals for cases beyond the clinic’s capacity
- – Perform minor surgical procedures as per Penda Health’s service schedules
- – Ensure accurate documentation of all observations, vitals, prescribed treatments, and procedures in patient charts
2. Patient Experience and Education:
- – Create exceptional patient experiences through empathetic care and clear communication
- – Counsel and educate patients on preventive and promotive health measures through individual consultations and group health talks
3. Professional Development and Collaboration:
- – Embrace and develop skills within Penda Health’s evidence-based medical system and protocols
- – Participate in continuous professional development to stay current with advances in medical practices and technology
- – Collaborate with the branch manager and clinical officer in-charge on additional tasks as needed
4. Quality Assurance and Improvement:
- – Contribute to the ongoing improvement of clinical protocols and procedures
- – Participate in regular case reviews and clinical audits to maintain high standards of care
- – Stay informed about the latest medical research and best practices in primary care
Requirements:
Education and Certification:
- – Diploma, Higher Diploma, or BSc in Clinical Medicine
- – Valid registration with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya
- – Current practicing license
- – Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience:
- – Minimum of 2 years of work experience post-internship
- Skills and Attributes:
- – Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making abilities
- – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- – Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement
- – Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- – Proficiency in electronic medical record systems
- – Fluency in English and Swahili; knowledge of additional local languages is an advantage
