Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), one of the most successful local conservation organizations based at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, is seeking an exceptional People (HR) Director to join their team.
About Northern Rangelands Trust:
NRT is a membership organization owned and led by 45 community conservancies, covering an impressive 12% of Kenya’s land area. Established as a shared resource, NRT’s mission is to build and develop community conservancies, enhance people’s lives, foster peace, and conserve the natural environment.
Position Overview:
The People (HR) Director will play a pivotal role in shaping and nurturing NRT’s human capital. This key leadership position requires a strategic thinker who can develop and implement comprehensive talent strategies while driving employee engagement and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Talent Management:
- – Develop and execute strategies for talent acquisition, management, development, retention, and exit
- – Design and implement a comprehensive training curriculum for employees and HR personnel
- – Oversee performance management processes to drive organizational and individual growth
- – Develop succession planning initiatives to groom future leaders
2. HR Systems and Processes:
- – Create onboarding materials and develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) handbook for HR-related policies and processes
- – Assess and manage the development of a digitized HR Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
- – Streamline HR processes to enhance efficiency
3. Employee Engagement and Workplace Culture:
- – Lead initiatives to create a positive and motivated work environment
- – Promote an inclusive workplace, focusing on diversity across all levels
- – Address employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances
- – Develop HR policies that comply with Kenyan labor laws
4. Leadership and Management:
- – Develop annual budgets for the HR department
- – Support fundraising proposals and grant reports
- – Collaborate closely with the Chief Operating Officer for institutional memory and continuity
- – Provide daily management, coaching, mentorship, and career development opportunities to direct reports
Requirements:
Education and Certifications:
- – Master of Business Administration (HR) or Strategic Management
- – Certified Human Resource Practitioner (CHRP)
- – Active membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and current annual practicing license
Experience and Skills:
- – 10+ years of experience in HR roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position
- – Comprehensive knowledge of HR functions, talent management, and Kenyan employment laws
- – Demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition, management, and development
- – Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- – Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
