IBM Research Africa is seeking talented and motivated individuals for their Research Intern program at their Nairobi, Kenya lab. Internship Overview:
This 12-week paid internship program offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in meaningful technology solutions, develop scalable software systems, and collaborate with research scientists and engineers in the fields of generative AI and cloud-based workflows. Interns will have the chance to contribute to projects that could shape the future of technology and society.
Key Focus Areas:
Depending on your skills and interests, you may work in one of the following cutting-edge domains:
1. Foundation Models: Explore the latest advancements in large-scale AI models
2. Cloud Platforms: Develop and optimize cloud-native technologies
3. Generative AI for Code: Innovate in the field of AI-assisted software development
4. Data for Climate and Sustainability: Leverage data science to address environmental challenges
Responsibilities:
- – Conduct research and develop innovative solutions in your assigned focus area
- – Collaborate with IBM scientists and engineers on ongoing projects
- – Implement and test scalable software systems
- – Analyze complex data sets and derive meaningful insights
- – Participate in team meetings and present your findings
- – Contribute to technical documentation and research papers
Requirements:
- – Currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related technical field (Graduation date must be after August 2025)
- – Proficiency in Python/PyTorch and experience in at least one additional programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, NodeJS)
- – Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- – Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- – Passion for technology and innovation
Preferred Qualifications:
- – Experience presenting research in technical communities (e.g., publications in NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, IJCAI, AAAI, KDD, or similar conferences)
- – Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and platforms
- – Understanding of machine learning concepts and experience with frameworks such as HuggingFace APIs
- – Previous internship or research experience in AI, data science, or related fields
