Role Overview

The Strategy Intern will report directly to the Chief Product Officer. While based in Nairobi, this role has global scope, covering all markets of operations including Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa. The position may require travel to engage with customers and in-country teams across these markets.

Key Responsibilities

The Strategy Intern at M-KOPA will:

Strategic Planning & Analysis

  • – Prepare presentations for M-KOPA leadership and in-country teams to lead strategic clarity and agreement
  • – Build financial models to analyze economics of strategic investments and new product launches
  • – Conduct comprehensive industry research and competitive analysis

Performance Management

  • – Develop departmental performance dashboards, working closely with product and data teams
  • – Support M-KOPA’s quarterly business planning and prioritization process
  • – Identify opportunities to improve operations, processes, efficiency, and output

Impact Focus

  • – Contribute to M-KOPA’s mission of making positive impacts on customers and communities
  • – Advocate for customer needs throughout all strategic initiatives

Candidate Requirements

Experience & Education

  • – 5+ years of work experience in strategy, business operations, management consulting, product management, research, or comparable roles
  • – Currently enrolled in an MBA or other relevant master’s degree program
  • – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • – Emerging markets experience, particularly in East or West Africa (preferred)

Skills & Competencies

  • – Strong analytical skills with excellent experience in Excel modeling and data-driven decision making
  • – Ability to solve open-ended business problems from identification through implementation
  • – Effective collaboration skills and team orientation
  • – Thrives in a dynamic environment and can deliver high-visibility projects with urgency
  • – Passion for making fair and flexible financing accessible to everyone
