The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) leads and inspires the global effort to achieve zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths. UNAIDS collaborates with 11 UN organizations, including UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, UN Women, ILO, UNESCO, WHO, and the World Bank, working with global and national partners to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

A stipend may be offered to contribute to interns’ living expenses, applicable only to candidates NOT already receiving financial support.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • – Enrollment in an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree program at a recognized educational institution, OR recent graduation with an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree within the past year.
  • – Recent graduates are expected to start the internship within 12 months of graduation.

Additional Information:

  • – Candidates must be at least 20 years old at the time of application.
  • – A working knowledge (oral and written) of at least one of WHO/UNAIDS’ official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) required in the office of the internship.
  • – Candidates should hold a valid passport/ID from a WHO/UNAIDS Member State.
  • – Persons with immediate family members employed by the UNAIDS Secretariat (e.g., son/daughter, brother/sister, or mother/father) are not eligible for internships.
  • – UNAIDS may only offer internships to candidates who have NOT previously participated in the UNAIDS internship program.
