Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Head of Compliance and Investigations, the Compliance and Investigation Officer will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, maintaining, and communicating Watu’s Compliance Program. This position is responsible for conducting internal investigations and ensuring that Watu Africa operates in accordance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Internal Investigations:
- – Conduct and supervise internal investigations according to Watu Standards
- – Analyze key investigation metrics and trends, preparing comprehensive reports
- – Identify and present investigation learnings to management
- – Implement remedial actions and conduct retaliation checks
2. Compliance Program Management:
- – Design, implement, and maintain Watu’s Compliance Program
- – Develop and update written documentation and policies related to the organization’s business activities
- – Act as a trusted advisor for employees seeking guidance on compliance-related matters
- – Handle reports of suspected misconduct with discretion and professionalism
3. Training and Communication:
- – Deploy compliance training and communication strategies and initiatives
- – Monitor the effectiveness and coverage of training and communication activities
- – Develop engaging materials to promote compliance awareness across the organization
4. Continuous Improvement:
- – Stay informed about the latest developments in ethics and compliance
- – Research new technologies and ways of working in the compliance field
- – Apply and share learnings to promote continuous improvement of Watu’s compliance practices
5. Risk Management:
- – Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them
- – Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance measures are integrated into business operations
- – Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend appropriate actions
Requirements:
- – Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field
- – Minimum of 2 years of experience in corporate governance, investigations, or compliance-related field
- – Strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices
- – Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- – Superior attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- – Strong integrity and commitment to ethical practices
- – Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- – Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment
- – Self-starter with a target-oriented mindset
- – Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- – Proficiency in compliance management software and data analysis tools (preferred)
