Job Overview:
World Vision is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Grant Accountant to join their finance team in Karen, Kenya. This critical role is essential in providing financial technical support throughout the lifecycle of various projects, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with excellent analytical skills and extensive experience in managing EU and other multilateral and government-funded grants.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting and Accountability (35%)
- – Review and follow up on implementing partner monthly financial reports
- – Provide timely and detailed feedback to implementing agencies
- – Ensure accuracy and congruence in consolidated financial reports
- – Prepare grant financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
- – Conduct in-depth data analyses using advanced statistical methods and tools
- – Develop data dashboards and visual aids to support decision-making
2. Budget Management and Control (30%)
- – Post approved budgets into the SUN System
- – Monitor budget commitments in the PBAS System
- – Review implementing partner and Technical Unit expenses
- – Lead budget revisions and proposals
- – Analyze and escalate exchange gain or loss impacts
3. Policy Management and Internal Control (10%)
- – Review payment and funding requests for compliance
- – Ensure proper screening and documentation for payments
- – Lead financial project close-out processes
4. Risk Management and Internal Control (20%)
- – Lead external expenditure verification exercises and audits
- – Implement audit recommendations within 90 days
- – Conduct capacity building for implementing partners
- – Participate in risk register creation and review
- – Conduct regular partner field monitoring visits
- – Verify monthly IP expenses and submit signed reports
- – Manage fund flows and financial commitments
5. Record Keeping and Other Finance Duties (5%)
- – Maintain accurate grant documents and verified expenses
- – Prepare financial presentations for Technical Unit Meetings
- – Submit monthly management reports
- – Monitor bank balances and record interests
- – Manage and update databases
Requirements:
Education and Qualifications:
- – Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- – Qualified Accountant – Minimum CPA/ACCA Part 3 (finalist)
- – Proficiency in computer applications (Excel, Sun Systems, Word, etc.)
Experience:
- – Minimum 4 years’ experience in an NGO setting
- – Experience with EU, SIDA, SDC, DANIDA, DFAT, USAID grants, and other government & multilateral funded grants
- – Sub-grantee management and capacity building experience (LNGO & INGO)
- – Expertise in analytical reporting using PowerBI
Skills and Knowledge:
- – Advanced Excel skills
- – Knowledge of Sun Systems (preferred)
- – Understanding of multilateral and government grants
- – Contract management expertise
- – Mastery in data analysis languages (SQL, Python – added advantage)
- – Knowledge of the Somalia context (added advantage)
Travel Requirements:
- – Office-based with frequent field travel (25% domestic/international travel)
- – On-call availability as needed
