The Transcend Programme, a partnership between Amref Health Africa in Kenya and the Turkana County Government, aims to improve health outcomes, particularly in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), family planning, and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Turkana West sub-county.

AMREF Job Purpose

The Community Engagement Officer will strengthen community health at the county level, promoting acceptance and uptake of health services among community members, including adolescents and youth.

Key Area Activities

  • Support the deployment and operation of the electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS) and enhance data quality.
  • Organize community mobilization and awareness sessions to increase uptake of health services.
  • Engage with community members, adolescents, and youths to address health service delivery gaps.
  • Develop and deploy behavior change interventions using various channels for health promotion.
  • Coordinate with health facilities and teams to provide integrated health services.
  • Facilitate trainings for community groups.

Partnership and Networking

  • Strengthen networks and linkages with public, faith-based, and private sectors involved in community health programming.
  • Position Amref Health Africa as a leader in community programming through engagement with partners and stakeholders.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Prepare and submit project activity reports.
  • Support health data monitoring and audit.
  • Update the community health workers registry and analyze data for career progression.
  • Identify areas for operational research in Community Based Health Care.

Advocacy

  • Advocate for community interests in programs and resource allocation.
  • Conduct assessments to identify community needs and priorities.
  • Support advocacy for community health services.

Admin and Financial Management

  • Support day-to-day management of activity budgets.
  • Ensure timely accounting for project resources.

Program Development

  • Participate in developing concepts and writing proposals for fundraising.

Community Engagement for FP/RMNCAH & NCD Services

  • Work with the County Government to strengthen community health services.
  • Implement community health strategies and policies.
  • Identify quality improvement gaps and develop innovative approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Sociology, or a relevant field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in public health, community development, or behavior change programs at the community level.
  • Experience in demand creation activities for donor-funded health programs is desirable.
