The National Indigenous Scholarship Program at Western University aims to support and empower Indigenous undergraduate students (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) who are studying full-time at Western’s main campus. This scholarship recognizes outstanding academic excellence and meaningful contributions to Indigenous communities. Annually, five scholarships are awarded, with three scholarships dedicated to students applying from Canadian high schools and two scholarships for Indigenous students applying from postsecondary institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the National Indigenous Scholarship Program at Western University, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • – Level of Study: Associate, Bachelor, Co-op, Honours, Online
  • – Gender: Any
  • – Year of Study: Entering or in the first year
  • – Citizenship: Canada- Status in Canada: Permanent Resident
  • – Schools Attended: Any School
  • – Heritage: Aboriginal, First Nation, Indigenous
  • – School of Study: Western University
  • – Field of Study: Any Field of Study- Region of Residence: Ontario
  • – Course Load: Full-time or Part-time
  • – Activities: Not specified
  • – Financial Need: No

Scholarship Details

The National Indigenous Scholarship Program offers the following awards:

  • – 2 awards at $50,000 each for Indigenous students applying from Canadian high schools ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 for years two to four based on ongoing registration)
  • – 1 award at $50,000 for an Indigenous student applying from a postsecondary institution ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 for years two to four based on ongoing registration)

Selection CriteriaRecipients of the scholarship will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • – Academic Achievement
  • – Creative and Innovative Thinking
  • – Previous or Intended Contributions to Indigenous Communities (on and off reserve, as well as urban settings)
