The position of Finance and Budget Assistant is based in the Industry and Economy Division, Chemicals and Health Branch, at the Nairobi duty station.

Key Responsibilities
Budget Management
- – Support the review, analysis, and preparation of the medium-term plan and its revisions.
- – Assist in the preparation of GEF submissions and UNEP Programme of Work documents.
- – Monitor expenditures and prepare necessary adjustments to ensure budget compliance.
- – Reconcile accounts periodically and ensure the integrity of financial databases.
- – Assist in drafting budget performance submissions and variance analysis reports.
Treasury Operations
- – Review incoming payment instructions and prepare payments for final disbursement.
- – Notify payees about the status of payments and address related queries.
- – Provide support to staff and donors regarding payment and deposit issues.
General Administration
- – Stay updated on relevant UN guidelines and ensure compliance in financial operations.
- – Maintain accurate records and provide guidance to junior staff as required.
- – Contribute to data analysis, report preparation, and the development of visual materials.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education
- – High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- – Training in program administration, finance, budget, or related fields is mandatory.
Work Experience
- – Minimum of 7 years of experience in administrative services, finance, accounting, or related fields.
- – Candidates with a first-level university degree require only 5 years of relevant experience.
- – Experience with UN agencies, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems like Umoja, and organizing meetings is desirable.
Languages
- – Fluency in English is required.
- – Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
